thumbs_P1000371[1] I guess Dotolim must be the smallest space I every performed in. Though this might be deceiving as the fantastic view of Seoul from Dotolim’s windows tends to dispel any sense of claustrophobia. And in any case, this was not my first time playing in Dotolim. One week previous to the concert I recorded one of my graphical scores there with Jin Sangtae, Ryu Hankil, Joonyong Choi, Hong Chulki, Park Seungjun and myself. We filled the room. It was nearly impossible for some of us to leave. Once we sat down to play we were stuck for the length of the composition (sixty minutes). It was a great, intense experience.

So, the night of the concert in Dotolim, which was also my last night in Seoul, culmintating two weeks of much activity and culinary delights there, was in comparison quite spatious. I particularly enjoyed playing under the glare of harsh neon light with the audience sitting an arm’s length away. This was a no bullshit situation. In-your-face sound. And I think the persona of this space lends itself well to the music played there, which for me is very much about directness, lack of pretense and a certain brashness.
