‘닻올림’은 2006년 10월 진상태에 의해 설립된 회사의 이름입니다. 같은해 11월 일본 투어에서 오토모 요시히데(Otomo Yoshihide, 大友良英)의 사무실 겸 공간 ‘GRID605’에서 공연 시 느꼈던 작은 공간을 공연장으로 사용할 때 밀도 및 여러 가지 장점들에 매료되어, 진상태는 상수동에 위치한 8평 남짓한 오피스텔을 즉흥음악과 실험음악 중심의 소규모 공연장 및 레코딩 공간으로 운영할 계획을 세우게 됩니다. 공연장의 이름도 그의 회사 이름을 딴 ‘닻올림’이라 부르게 되었습니다.
공연장으로서 공간 ‘닻올림’은 2008년 2월에 첫 연주회를 시작했습니다. 처음에는 격월간으로 공연을 진행할 계획이었으나 현재는 매달 1~2회 탄력적으로 진행하고 있습니다. 즉흥음악, 실험음악을 중심으로 이와 관련되어 같이 협연되거나 시도할 수 있는 다른 종류의 예술들과의 만남을 시도하는 ‘닻올림 연주회’라는 이름의 공연시리즈를 180회 넘게 진행해오고 있습니다.
이후 공간 ‘닻올림’은 2015년에 조금 더 큰 공간으로 장소를 옮겨 ‘닻올림 연주회’및 기타 활동을 해왔고, 2019년 7월 세번째 장소로 이사해 현재 연주회와 이벤트를 이어가고 있습니다.
‘dotolim’ is the name of a company established by Jin Sangtae in October 2006. In November of the same year, during a concert at Otomo Yoshihide’s office-cum-space ‘GRID605’ in Japan, Jin Sangtae was fascinated by the density and various advantages of using a small space as a concert venue. This inspired him to plan the operation of an office slightly larger than 8 pyeong (approximately 26 square meters) located in Sangsu-dong as a small-scale concert venue and recording space focused on improvised and experimental music. The name of the venue was also derived from his company name, ‘Dotolim’.
As a concert venue, the space ‘Dotolim’ started its first concert in February 2008. Initially, there were plans to hold concerts bi-monthly, but currently, they are flexibly held 1-2 times a month. Centered around improvised and experimental music, a concert series named ‘Dotolim Concert’ has been held more than 180 times, attempting to encounter other types of art that can be collaborated or tried in relation to the main focus.
Later, in 2015, the space ‘Dotolim’ moved to a slightly larger space and continued ‘dotolim concert series’ and other activities. In July 2019, it relocated to its third location, where concerts and events are still ongoing.
