마티야 쉘랜더는 오스트리아 출신의 작곡가이자 즉흥음악가로서 더블 베이스, 모듈러 신디사이저, 인풋 스피커, 공기 등을 주로 연주한다. 그의 음악은 개념적이지만 음악에 내재되어 있는 비이성적이고 감각적인 소통 가능성을 놓치지 않는 음악을 만들고 있다. 2003년에 Angelica Castello, Thomas Grill, Maja Osojnik와 결성한 Low Frequency Group를 통해 Wolfgang Mitterer와 Anja Utler와 함꼐 작업하였다. 2008년에는 Maja Osojnik와 Rdeča Raketa를 시작하여 독특한 테이프와 음반을 선보하였다. 2012년에 디스토피아 문학과 영화에서 영감을 받아 작곡한 7개의 일렉트로 어쿠스틱 곡을 모은 첫 번째 솔로 음반인 “sum šum” 을 한국의The Manual에서 발표하였다. 최근에는 Noid, Enrico Malatesta, Attila Faravelli, 최준용과의 연주에 집중하고 있다. 또한 베를린에서 머무는 동안에 공간, 움직임, 빛과 소리를 다루는 더블베이스 솔로 퍼포먼스 프로젝트를 진행하였다. 2013년에 Filmarchiv Austria로부터 의뢰 받은 Dreyer의 Passion of Joan of Arc를 위한 더블베이스 솔로곡을 작곡하였다.

Matija Schellander is an Austrian composer and improvising musician based in Vienna, mostly using double bass, modular synthesizer, and speakers: processing input, moving air output. Schellander’s music is conceptual, but it never dismisses the non-rational, sensual communicational possibility intrinsic in music. He has co-founded the ensemble Low Frequency Orchestra (with Angelica Castello, Thomas Grill, Maja Osojnik) in 2003. They have produced many projects, including a CD with Wolfgang Mitterer and sound/text piece with author Anja Utler. Schellander regularly works with Maja Osojnik in their electroacoustic duo Rdeča Raketa founded in 2008. In 2012 Schellander released his first solo CD “sum šum” with 7 electroacoustic compositions that have been inspired by dystopic literature and movies on the label The Manual (Seoul, South Korea). In recent years he has also focused on improvised music in duos with cellist Noid, percussionist Enrico Malatesta, sound artists Attila Faravelli and Choi Joonyong. He has also developed a double bass solo music/performance project that incorporates space, movement, light and sound during his stay in Berlin in 2011/12. In 2013 Schellander composed music for double bass solo for Dreyer´s Passion of Joan of Arc, commisioned by the Filmarchiv Austria in 2013.
