닻올림픽 2017 : 전야제 2 “from Ting Shuo, Tainan, Taiwan” – 타이완의 실험음악

안녕하세요 닻올림픽 조직위원회 입니다. 
 
즉흥-실험음악 페스티벌 ‘닻올림픽 2017’ 이 본격적으로 시작되기 전에 전야제 프로그램이 11월 8일(수), 11월 9일(목) 이틀간 열립니다. 닻올림픽 본부대와는 또 다른 성격의 프로그램들을 만나실 수 있습니다.
 
11월 9일(목)의 “전야제 2″에는 닻올림픽에서 공연할 예정인 12 dog cycle의 두 명이자, 타이완(대만)의 도시 타이난에서 실험음악을 위한 공간 ‘Ting Shuo’를 운영하고 있는 앨리스 후이-솅 창 Alice Hui-Sheng Chang과 나이젤 브라운 Nigel Brown과 함께 그들의 음악부터 시작해 그들의 근거지인 타이난의 Ting Shuo, 나아가 타이완의 실험음악에 대한 토크 세션을 갖습니다.

타이완(대만) 타이난에 거점을 둔 단체로, 우리는 전세계의 현대적 청취 및 건전한 창조 활동을 통해 참여를 유도, 다양한 지역 사회와 소통한다. Ting Shuo Studio 에는 워크샵 및 공연, 사운드 스튜디오 및 실험 음악 출판물 청취를 위한 갤러리등 개방 된 공간을 마련하고 있다.

설립자

앨리스 후이-솅 창 Alice Hui-Sheng Chang // 1984년 대만 창후아 태생. 보컬리스트. 그는 확장기술을 통한 즉흥연주로 관객과 밀접하게 교류하고 자신의 목을 조절해 공기를 거르는 발성법으로 음색을 배열한다. 다양한 바탕의 예술가들과 협업해왔다. read more…

나이젤 브라운 Nigel Brown

아직 잘 이해되지 못한 영역에 대해 탐구하고 있는 호주 출신의 사운드 아티스트이다. 해체된 아코디언을 이용한 일렉트로 어쿠스틱 연주를 통해 솔로 및 그룹 즉흥연주, 사운드 디자인, 녹음 작업 등에 참여해왔다. 유럽, 아시아, 호주 등지에서 드론사운드를 굴절시켜 생성해내는 공명음과 금속장치를 내리쳐 그 움직임을 소리화 시키는 작업을 선보인 바 있으며, Liquid Architecture (호주), Vozes de Magaio (포르투갈), Santander Sonoro (스페인), NTMoFA (대만), 2pi (중국) 등 여러 페스티벌에도 참여하였다. Trente Oiseaux(독일), EcoSono(미국), Mind Twisting Records(폴란드)를 통해 음반을 소개해왔고 2017년에는 앨리스 후이-솅 창 Alice Hui-Sheng Chang 과 함께 진행하고 있는 12 dog cycle 의 신보를 Soft Error에서 출시할 예정이다. 연극과 무용 사운드 디자이너로 활동하고 있는 나이젤은 주로 여러 채널을 결합한 사운드 설치작업과 음 진동에 반응하는 금속 설치품들을 함께 사용하여 복잡한 물리적 환경 속에서 나타나는 소리 들을 통합, 조화시키는 일을 전문적으로 다루고 있다. 현재 타이난에서 거주하며 소리와 듣기에 대해 연구를 하는 Ting Shuo Hear Say 를 앨리스 후이-솅 창 Alice Hui-Sheng Chang과 함께 설립, 운영중이다.

Nigel Brown is an Australian sound artist drawn to exploratory approaches of the not-quite-understood. The electro-acoustic sounds of his deconstructed accordion have been applied in solo and group improvisation, sound design and recordings. Bending cluster drones, sympathetic vibrations and pummelling metallic excursions have been presented in Europe, Asia and Australia in festivals including Liquid Architecture (Australia), Festival Vozes de Magaio (Portugal), Santander Sonoro (Spain), NTMoFA (Taiwan) and 2pi (China). Recorded works have been published by labels including Trente Oiseaux (Germany), EcoSono (USA), and Mind Twisting Records (Poland). His ongoing collaboration with Alice Hui-Sheng Chang, 12 dog cycle, has an upcoming release on Soft Error in 2017.

As a sound designer for theatre and dance Nigel specialises in the integration of sound in complex physical environments; having created multi-channel sound installations and kinetic metal sculptures activated through sound vibration.

Currently based in Tainan, Taiwan, he is the co-founder of Ting Shuo Hear Say, an organisation for the promotion of sound and listening practice.

12 독 사이클(12 dog cycle)은 앨리스 후이-솅 창(대만)과 나이젤 브라운(호주)이 지난 10년간 함께 진행해온 협업 프로젝트이다. 그들은 소리를 통해 주변의 공간과 환경을 경험하고자 한다. 앨리스는 색다른 발성법으로 관객과 친밀한 관계를 형성하며 공간이 가진 음향적 성질에 주목한다. 나이젤은 피아노 아코디언을 해체/변경시켜 자신만의 독특한 드론 악기를 만들어 사용한다.

또한 그들은 ‘Ting Shuo Hear Say‘라는 실험음악을 기반으로 한 교육, 퍼포먼스 공간을 대만 타이난을 설립해 운영해 오고 있다.

12 dog cycle is a collaboration that has been developed over the past decade by Alice Hui-Sheng Chang (Taiwan) and Nigel Brown (Australia). In their performance practice they use sound to explore our experience of the space and environment around us. Alice uses her voice in unconventional ways to create an intimate relationship with an audience and draw attention to the acoustic properties of a space. Nigel has deconstructed a piano accordion to create a unique drone instrument.

They also run ‘Ting Shuo Hear Say‘ in Tainan, Taiwan, a space dedicated to experimental music promotion through education and collaborative performances.
