‘Handmade \/ Automation’<\/p>\n

A performance utilising a custom-made Sonic Baton enabling the artist to conduct an ‘invisible orchestra of noise\u2019. The sounds come from original field recordings made in ceramic artists’ studios in Seoul, combined with the sounds of an automated ceramic production line in Stoke-on-Trent (UK). The performance is an adaption of a four-channel sound installation made for British Ceramics Biennial 2017 as part of the ‘Made in Korea’ project, co-curated by Young in partnership with ceramist Kay Aplin.<\/p>\n

As an artist, Young has exhibited and performed at Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Whitechapel Gallery, Jerwood Hastings, Seoul Museum of Art, Conflux NYC and Berlin MPA. His sound pieces have been published and broadcast by BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, Public Record, Furthernoise, Radio Papesse and Resonance FM. The binaural sound work \u2018The Missing Paintings\u2019 is part of the permanent collection at Towner Art Gallery (UK).<\/p>\n

In 2007, Young formed Neo Futurist Collective and embarked on the creation of a series of works entitled ‘ReAwakening of a City’, inspired by the surviving seven bars of the score to Awakening of a City by Futurist artist, Luigi Russolo. The collective made its first appearance in Brighton on the 99th anniversary of the Founding of Futurism manifesto. In 2012-14, the collective co-produced ‘The Ballad of Skinny Lattes and Vintage Clothing’, a six movement noise opera about artists, austerity and gentrification, which toured to galleries and site-specific venues across the UK. An edition of which is held in the permanent collection of the Estorick Collection in London.  <\/p>\n
