제이슨 칸은 음악가, 미술가, 작가로 활동하며 1960년에 뉴욕에서 태어나 로스엔젤레스에서 자라왔다. 1990년에 유럽으로 거처를 옮겨 1999년까지 베를린에서 살다가 현재는 스위스 취리히에 거주하고 있다. 그는 여러 나라의 박물관, 갤러리, 공공장소 등에서 설치작품을 전시하였다. 그의 작품은 공간에 대한 생각과 개념, 물리적인 연결점, 그것의 제작과 해체, 그리고 정치, 사회, 환경의 매개로서의 우리와의 관계를 다루고 있다. 전자 음악가이자 드러머로서 그는 많은 음악가들과 즉흥연주나 그가 특정한 그룹을 위해 작곡한 그래픽 악보를 갖고 함께 작업 하였다. 또한 라디오, 필름, 무용, 연극을 위한 곡을 만들기도 하며, 여러 음반 커버를 디자인하였고, 작가로서도 책이나 잡지, 음반의 라이너 노트 등을 통해 그의 글이 실렸다. 1998년부터 2008년까지는 Cut이라는 레이블을 운영하여 본인과 여러 음악가들의 음악을 담은 CD를 25장 발표하였다. 2011년에는 자신의 음악과 글을 출판하는 Editions를 시작하였다. http://jasonkahn.net
Jason Kahn is a musician, artist and writer. He was born in New York in 1960 and grew up in Los Angeles. He moved to Europe in 1990, first living in Berlin until 1999, then moving to Switzerland. He is currently based in Zürich. Kahn exhibits his installations in museums, galleries, art spaces and public sites internationally. These works focus on the idea of space: the conceptual and physical juncture points, its production and dissolution, and our relation to it as a political, social and environmental medium. As an electronic musician and drummer Kahn collaborates regularly with many musicians, both in improvised settings and in the context of graphical scores which he composes for specific groups. Kahn’s other activities include sound pieces for radio, film, dance and theater. He has also designed numerous CD, LP and cassette covers. As a writer, his work has appeared in books, magazines and as liner notes to many audio publications. From 1998 until 2008 Kahn ran the label Cut, releasing twenty-five CD’s which included both his own work and that of many other artists.
