‘닻올림’은 2006년 10월 진상태에 의해 설립된 회사의 이름입니다. 같은해 11월 일본 투어에서 오토모 요시히데(Otomo Yoshihide, 大友良英)의 사무실 겸 공간 ‘GRID605’에서 공연에서 느꼈던 작은 공간을 공연장으로 사용할 때 밀도 및 여러 가지 장점들에 매료되어, 상수동에 위치한 8평 남짓한 오피스텔을 즉흥음악과 실험음악 중심의 소규모 공연장 및 레코딩 공간으로 운영할 계획을 세우게 됩니다. 공연장의 이름도 그의 회사 이름을 딴 ‘닻올림’이라 부르게 되었습니다.
공연 공간으로서 공간 ‘닻올림’은 2008년 2월에 첫 연주회를 시작했습니다. 처음에는 격월간으로 공연을 진행할 계획이었으나 현재는 매달 1~2회 탄력적으로 진행하고 있습니다. 즉흥음악, 실험음악을 중심으로 이와 관련되어 같이 협연되거나 시도할 수 있는 다른 종류의 예술들과의 만남을 시도하는 ‘닻올림 연주회’라는 이름의 공연시리즈를 220회 넘게 진행해오고 있습니다.
이후 공간 ‘닻올림’은 2015년에 조금 더 큰 공간으로 장소를 옮겨 ‘닻올림 연주회’및 관련 활동을 해왔고, 2019년 7월 세번째 장소, 2025년 11월에는 영등포구 도림동으로 이전, 현재 연주회와 이벤트를 이어갈 준비를 하고 있습니다.
dotolim is the name of a company founded by Jin Sangtae in October 2006. In November of the same year, during a Japan tour, he performed at Otomo Yoshihide’s (大友良英) office-cum-space GRID605. The density and unique strengths of presenting music in a small, intimate venue left a strong impression on him. This experience led to the idea of operating a modest 8-pyeong (approximately 26 m²) officetel room in Sangsu-dong as a small performance and recording space dedicated to improvised and experimental music. The venue was given the same name as the company: dotolim.
dotolim held its first concert as a performance space in February 2008. While it was initially planned as a bimonthly series, it has since evolved into a flexible schedule of one to two events each month. The “dotolim concert series,” which focuses on improvised and experimental music and embraces collaborations across various artistic disciplines, has presented more than 220 performances to date.
dotolim later relocated to a slightly larger space in 2015, continuing its activities there. It moved again in July 2019 to its third location, and in November 2025 it will relocate to Dorim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu. Preparations are currently underway to resume concerts and various events in the new space.
